Build it and they will come, or will they?
You are organizing a webinar, networking meeting or other training seminar so you set up events on LinkedIN and Facebook. Now your work is done, you’ve put up an event and people are going to find it and sign up for your event in droves.
Fast forward and no one found your event. “Oh, this doesn’t work – I won’t do this again”, you say. Actually it wasn’t Facebook or LinkedIN that didn’t work. You forgot one crucial step. Just like you have to market and tell the world about non-virtual events, so it goes with virtual events. There are hundreds of events posted on social media sites every day. You have to tell people about yours.
The first thing to do with your event is to let your connections know about it. Using LinkedIN as an example, an event has an option to share it with your network. There is also an option to use paid advertising to put your event in front of your target audience. If your budget doesn’t allow for it, another option is to find groups where your target market hangs out and join those groups. Next you can start a discussion letting people know about your event and include a link to your event.
I used this method this month to share information about a networking event I was organizing. Several people who came to the meeting came via LinkedIN. I was quite pleased that it worked so well.
You can use the same formula with Facebook.
Try this for your next event, you may be pleasantly surprised.
